Between 395 CE (234 BH) and 632 CE (10 AH) Syria was part of the Byzantine Empire and as such was a predominantly Christian country

In 632 CE (10 AH) the Caliph Omar, defeated the Byzantinans in the famous Battle of Yarmuk, under the generalship of Khalid bin Walid. Syria became part of the Islamic World, and continues as a majority Muslim country till the present.
