The European Slavers opperated on the coasts of Africa, fearing to venture inland. Africans who traded in Slaves brought the slaves to the coast. Upon Arrival
- Slaves where branded with a hot metal rod
- Stripped naked (in part to prevent suicide by hanging but also as part of the dehuminisation process)
- chained together
- packed into holds of the ships
- barely adequate food and water
- brought to the decks and made to dance
- frequently beaten
- sanitation facilities non existent
- sick and injured , who were deemed to frail to bring a good price were thrown overboard.
- In the cases of pregnant women who delivered babies on boards, the babies were immediately cast overboard. See Ball's Muslim
- 10%-20% of all slaves died in transit to the Americas.
