The word raka'aat is the plural of rak'ah. Rak'ah is a derivation of the word rukoo', which literally means to bend, as one bends or hunches as one ages. Rak'ah is a word that denotes the cycle of standing along with recitation of Sura AL-FATIHAH, bowing, and two prostrations. Each cycle denotes one rak'ah.

Rukoo' is the specific act of bowing after standing and before the prostrations
