- 26th January 1885 (9th Rabbi al-Thanni 1302) - After a siege that lasted over 10 months, the Sudanese Mahdists stormed and captured British-occupied Khartoum killing the entire garrison, including general Gordon, as well as the majority of the 30,000 civilian population.
