Inshallah, this is a website intended to provide accurate and referencable information on Islam. Any fatawa, hadith, Qur'anic ayah, etc must be cited.

[edit] Referencing

To add a reference to a statement add a reference tag after the statement. Reference tags should be added after punctuation (commas, periods, etc). To add a reference tag, place <ref>source here</ref>, which will produce.[1] At the bottom of the page, under a 'References' section (the same as the one at the bottom of this page), place <references/>. The reference tag can also be used to place notes at the bottom of the page.

[edit] What should be referenced

  • Qur'an
  • Hadith and Sirah
  • Fatwa (religious verdict)
  • Statements by scholars
  • Biographical information
  • Historical information
  • Definitions of Islamic/Arabic terms

It should be noted, however, that not every statement needs to be cited. For example, common knowledge (such as the fact that there are 6236 ayahs in the Qur'an) does not need to be cited.

[edit] Unknown source

If a statement is found on the wiki whose source is unknown, then the template {{fact}} should be placed after the statement or paragraph.

[edit] Templates

A number of templates exist to make referencing easy.

[edit] Qur'an

There are two methods for citing the Qur'an, the first is prefered:

1. Linking to one of the suwar listed on the MuslimWiki Surah article. This is preferred as the surahs also contain internal links, such as to Allah.

2.The Quran template, which links to the USC-MSA site. To use the template, place the template in the article: {{Quran|022|026}}. Place the surah number after the first pipe, and the ayah number after the second pipe. The template will automatically create a link to the USC-MSA website.

[edit] Hadith

Hadith can be cited using the hadithref template, which automatically links to the specific hadith on the USC-MSA website. The hadith books that can be used with the template are Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawud, and Malik's Muwatta.

Usage

{{hadithref|bukhari|1|2|11}} gives Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 2, Number 11
{{hadithref|muslim|001|0007}} gives Sahih Muslim, Book 001, Number 0007
{{hadithref|abudawud|3|1092}} gives Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 3, Number 1092
{{hadithref|muwatta|56|56.7.18}} gives Malik's Muwatta, Book 56, Number 56.7.18

  • {{{1}}} is the name of the hadith compilation. This can be placed with bukhari, muslim, abudawud, or muwatta.
  • {{{2}}} is the volume number in the case of Sahih Bukhari, and the book number in the case of the rest.
  • {{{3}}} is the book number in the case of Sahih Bukhari, and the hadith number for the rest.
  • {{{4}}} is used only for Sahih Bukhari, and is the hadith number.

Not specifying the hadith book, or misspelling it, will give 'ERROR: UNDEFINED HADITH COMPILATION'.
