Musnad

The Musnad is the title of Imam Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal's 164 AH (780 CE) - 241 AH (855 CE) magnum opus as well as the term for a generic collection of ahadith classified according to the narrations of each sahabah relating the hadith. Imam Ahmad was also one of the big four jurists whose rulings and methodology constitute the Hanbali school of fiqh.

It is estimated that Musnad contains around 40,000 ahadith of which 10,000 are repetitions and in the last few years received a critical review and rendition by a group of scholars headed by the great contemporary hadith scholar, Shaikh Shuaib Arnauut under the auspices of the publishing house Muassasah Risalah in Damascus. This new addition runs into 50 volumes and is an invaluable addition to the scholarly edition of Imam Ahmad Muhammad Shakir 1958 CE (1377 AH) which he never completed
