Introduction Granada was one of the last cities of Al Andalus to fall to the trinitarians, after Valencia in 1236 CE (633 AH) Murcia in 1238 CE (635 AH) and Seville in 1248 CE (645 AH). It was in muslims hands until 1492 CE (897 AH)

  • It became an independent kingdom in 1031 CE (421 AH) [1] under the Zirid ruler Zawl
  • by the early 13th Century it was the fifth largest city in Spain.

Alhambra means 'the red'. Its construction was ordered by Muhammad ibn al-Ahmar in 1248 CE (645 AH)
