Dubai Healthcare city was launched on 5th November 2002 (29th Shaban 1423) and is expected to be fully operational by 2010. Launched by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum the project is expected to cost US $1.8 billion.

Dubai Healthcare is a city dedicated to medicine. It is expected to specialise in cardiology and oncology, urology, ophthalmology, pediatrics and orthopedics. It will also include medical education and a research center, for clinical research.

Backed by a capital expenditure investment of AED350 million to construct a foundation worthy of a truly world-class facility, along with strategic alliances with some of the most highly respected medical names in the world (Harvard Medical School Dubai Center, Mayo Clinic)[1]

University Hospital

  • Specialist hospital focusing on cardiology, oncology, and selected other medical disciplines
  • Full in house support services (ICU, anesthesiology, internal medicine and pharmacy)
  • Coverage of specific regional medical needs, e.g. diabetes
  • Initial capacity of 150 beds and facilities for accompanying families (expansion to 300 beds)
  • World class specialist medical care in a culturally sensitive, service focused environment

'Medical School

  • Initial focus: Post-graduate education
  • Initial target size: 50 students
  • Long-term specialist doctor supply for hospital
  • Accredited internationally
  • All teaching staff active in hospital
  • Mid-term undergraduate education

Nursing School

  • Basic nurses training and Master in Nursing
  • Target size: 200 students
  • Nurses complete practical training in hospital
  • Ensures high quality of nursing staff in hospital

Life Sciences Research Center

  • Initial focus: Applied clinical research

  • Integration with University Hospital and Medical School

Day Clinics

  • New day clinics of regional and local practicing doctors

Specialized Diagnostic Laboratory

  • Laboratory to include all standard diagnostic tests to support specialist disciplines plus high technology devices such as MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Spin Tomography, special blood testing, etc.
