- 10th May 1996 (21st Dhul-Hijjah 1416) - Madeleine Albright (then U.S. Ambassador to the U.N.) was presented with a figure 500,000 children having died from the Iraq sanctions. Not challenging this figure, she infamously replied "we think the price is worth it"
- 21st March 1968 (21st Dhul-Hijjah 1387) - Battle of Karameh. By a secret agreement between Israel and King Hussein of Jordan, Israeli forces entered the village of Karameh and suffer heavy casualties.
- 24th July 1924 (21st Dhul-Hijjah 1342) - The Treaty of Lausanne. Partition of Ottoman Caliphate. The states recognised Turkey’s independence.
