Israel invaded Lebanon on the pretext of securing the release of two of its Soldiers after they had been captured by the Hezbollah wing of the Lebanese defense force. The Two soldiers were captured whilst in Lebanese territory ^{[citation needed]}

A few days earlier the IDF had illegally entered Palestine and captured a doctor and his son ^{[citation needed]} ^[1]

2^nd March 2007 (12^th Safar 1428) Former US ambassador to the UN John Bolton tells the BBC that before any ceasefire to the Lebanon War Washington wanted Israel to eliminate Hezbollah's military capability. ^[2]
